A Closer Look at Follicular Unit Extraction

If you’re considering a hair transplant, you’ve probably heard of follicular unit extraction (FUE). But what is FUE, and how does it differ from other hair transplant procedures? In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at FUE hair transplants to help you better understand this popular treatment option.

FUE

How Is FUE Different from Other Hair Transplant Procedures?

There are two main types of hair transplant procedures: follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and follicular unit extraction (FUE). Both procedures involve taking hair from an area of the scalp where hair is thick (known as the “donor site”) and transplanting it to an area where hair is thin or missing (known as the “recipient site”).

With FUT, a strip of skin containing hair follicles is removed from the donor site. The strip is then divided into individual grafts, which are transplanted to the recipient site. FUT is a more invasive procedure than FUE, and it typically requires a longer recovery period.

With FUE, individual hair follicles are removed from the donor site one at a time. The follicles are then transplanted to the recipient site. Because FUE doesn’t require the removal of a strip of skin, it’s a less invasive procedure than FUT. And because there’s no need to stitches or staples, recovery from an FUE procedure is typically quicker than recovery from a FUT procedure.

What Are the Benefits of FUE?

FUE offers several benefits over other types of hair transplant procedures. First, as we mentioned earlier, it’s a less invasive procedure, which means there’s less pain and discomfort associated with it. Additionally, because there are no stitches or staples required, recovery from an FUE procedure is typically quicker than recovery from a FUT procedure. And finally, because individual hairs can be harvested from different areas of the scalp—including hard-to-reach places—FUE can provide more natural-looking results than other types of hair transplant procedures.
